Kelvin came to us between his free time from his two jobs. When he’s not modeling and enjoying company with family and friends, he’s working out and listening to oldies music. It’s quite interesting seeing such a mature presence from such a very young man. Upon his arrival, he greeted us with a huge smile as he was eager to start. Wasting no time, we headed up to our roof and began.
MID: How would you define Kelvin to others?
KD: I was born and raised here in New York and its definitely a privilege that I do not take for granted. I’m Dominican and French and a very big fan of basketball. I guess, I could say I’m pretty nostalgic, very intrigued with history and I’m a strong believer of “those who don’t learn from their past are bound to repeat it”. I feel like I may have been born in the wrong era, but I’m glad I can experience both ends of the spectrum.
MID: We see that you like the Platters, we’re also huge fans, but they’re a very old school group, do you listen to a lot of oldies?
KD: I am a huge fan of throwback music. I just feel like there was a lot more passion in the words and melodies than there is now, and doo-wop is probably one of my favorite genres – It plays daily on my daily playlists.
MID: Describe the most thrilling thing you ever did or experienced.
KD: Being raised in New York exposed me to a lot of different things at a very young age and graffiti really lured me in early during my high school years. A group of my friends and I, on a random weeknight, traveled to some discreet part of queens with our backpacks full of cans & snacks leaving our marks.
MID: If you had one more day to live, what would you dedicate that day to?
KD: Hmm definitely – I’d play basketball [laughs] or maybe i’d go hunting – its something on my bucket list.
MID: Are you in school and what are you studying?
KD: Oh yeah, I’m enrolling now as a freshmen in college and I’ll be studying accounting.
MID: Wow accounting, why?
KD: Everyone asks that – but it’s a really stable field with benefits. I was always good at math, and I figured I might as well make a career out of it. Hopefully land an accounting job at a great company that I support 100% vice versa, and that offers a few perks for their employees.
MID: What do you think about social media? Is it a good thing or bad thing?
KD: It’s a good thing in terms of getting recognition and trying to succeed in this fast pace modern era, but at the same time it is terrible because, its teaching new generations that they don’t have to confront their problems head on; you can just hide behind a screen if you please.
MID: If you got a glimpse into your future, would you try and change it if you didn’t like what you saw? And why?
KD: No, I don’t think I would try to change anything; our futures are sort of out of our hands even if we did get a glimpse of it. Trying to alter any aspect of it may throw you off your destined plan in life.
MID: How did you get placed with your current management?
KD: My Agent approached me on social media and presented himself with a modeling proposition for me and we just went from there.
MID: Did you ever look into other managements?
KD: I was scouted by another agency back in high school, but it just didn’t fall through, but I’m glad I’m with my agency now. They’re smaller, therefor pay more attention to their models.
MID: What do you aspire to be?
KD: An Outdoorsman.
MID: Why does that interest you?
KD: It has always been on my mind, nature and its beautifully cruel laws have excited me even as a kid. My dream is to be completely engulfed in it through all aspects of life.
MID: What’s one word you think your friends would describe you as?
KD: Antique.
MID: What’s a precious piece of advice someone has given you that you would share with someone else?
KD: Treat others, as you want to be treated.
